Earthquake in Chennai

There was an earthquake in Chennai a few minutes ago and I hardly felt it. Missing it for the second time. Lol. Was on the road the last time it happened (Which may have been due to the drowning of an idol in 12th century [:p]) and never felt it. Missed it this time too ![:(] Mild earthquakes which dont cause damage are fine with me !

Not a rumour -> check out some of the local TV stations like Sun TV

Dasavatharam Movie Review - Ayo Perumaale [:p]

Well Well ! I watched the much hyped up Dasavatharam at last. Sangam Cinemas -> 18th June 2008 -> 3:00 PM -> Sangam Screen.

And here's my review of the chase sequence I watched. This will sound more like a retort against Kamal fans because it is one![:D]. A review + a retort. Whatever you call it. And here it goes .. ..

JK Rowling's Harry Potter is based on Chaos Theory. If Lily hadn't come in the middle of Voldemort and sacrificed herself, Harry wouln't have been "The chosen One". Dumbledore wouldn't have died. And probably many others too! And Voldemort may have survived too. Vijay's Ghilli is also based on "Chaos Theory". If Vijay's father hadn't opposed him from playing Kabaddi, he wouldn't have run away to Madurai and would have never found his lady love. Harry Potter is yet again in the Chaos Theory mess. If Harry had allowed Sirius Black to kill Peter Pettigrew, he would not have been saved in Malfoy Manor in Book 7. Well, for every twist in life, there's an explanation on the basis of "The Chaos Theory". And if you don't agree with my earlier said points, please don't watch Dasavatharam because it is supposedly based on the so called Chaos Theory and Butterfly effect and many more such fancy named theories according to Kamal fans. And dont carry on reading this review as well.

Dasa talks about eight characters who are inconsequential as such, but are integrated in a larger picture. Without Bush, the plane would have been called back. Without Shinghen, Govind would be dead. Without the tsunami, the world would have been destroyed. Even Krishnaveni (the old woman) plays a very important role. If she had not put the vial in the idol, maybe Govind would have recovered it then and there and a powerful weapon would have been unleashed. The very fact that it went into the idol meant that it was being accelerated to its destiny. Without Kaifulllah Khan, Govind would have never escaped.

This is an explanation given by a Kamal fan on Sify!Movies when asked about the lack of story in Dasavatharam. Well, if this can connect the story, then what not! There's no semblance of a story anywhere. Kamal fans pride themselves on being Kamal fans and mocked at Shivaji for the masala movie it was and here's their cult hero dishing out the costliest and crappiest commercial in Tamil Cinema and probably Indian Cinema. They said Shivaji has no story. Where is the story in Dasavatharam ? They said Vijay movies have one line stories. This one doesn't even have a one-line story. Kamal should have restricted his name in the titles to just Screenplay because there's no story at all.

Cast and performances:

Kamal Hassan : One man army. Plays every character possible. I still have this doubt as to why he left Asin's character to Asin and Mallika's with her. He could have played them as well. He has done justice to very few of the 10 roles. He was awesome as Balram Naidu, the Telugu Speaking RAW officer. He was adequate as Govind, the scientist. He was good as Nambi in the 12th century. And was probably the best negative character since Muthupandi in Ghilli, Pandya in Kaakha Kaakha as Christian Fletcher. But the rest were just a mish-mash of make-up, plascticine. The overdose of plaster of Paris can be seen everywhere on the movie. The character of George Bush was as important as Sourav Ganguly was in the Indian Team after 2001 till 2006.[:D].Kalifulah was another unnecessary aspect as was Vincent Poovaraghan. Avtar Singh was yet another mash but Kamal was atleast watchable as Avtar because he had just grown a beard to cover up his face. Krishnaveni Paati never fit into the plot anywhere. Here role of dropping the vial into the idol could have been done in some other way. The Japanese Kamal as the Karate Instructor looked so much like Bharat's Nepali character with his make-up. Why did Kamal have to play ever single of the characters he wanted in the movie? He could have stopped with Govind, Fletcher, Balram Naidu. The grandmom character could have been given to some one else if he so desparately wanted it in. Kalifullah and Vincent Poovaragan could have been more effective if they had been played by character artistes. They got Jackie chan for the audio release. Instead they should have got him to play that Japanese guy's role. It would have been far more convincing. But Kamal needed to satisfy is ever-so-huge ego and wanted to exceed Sivaji Ganesan's masterpiece Navarathri where the thespian played 9 roles. Hence the introduction of a few unnecessary characters. The George bush character could have been dropped. He looked more like a cartoon when he played Bush.

Asin: The first role of Asin in the 12th century could have been done even by an extra. She had nothing to do there absolutely. And the second role as "Andal" was easily THE most irritating character in the history of Tamil Cinema with her constant "En Perumale", "Ayo.En Perumal" dialogues. So much that the audience at Sangam started booing her towards the end! She had nothing to do in the movie except run around with Kamal and spout those dialogues now and then. And if you didn't get irritated with her, you are highly patient.

Mallika Sherawat : With the skimpiest costumes one can wear, she did all that was expected of her.[:p].Her lip sync was as awful as that of Shreya's.Even her role was totally unnecessary to the plot of the story.

Napolean had this two minute bit role as Kulothunga Chozha. And his Tamil diction and lip-sync as the chozha king can give tough competition to Udit Narayan. MS Basker as the guide was adequate.Well. Everything else was Kamal. At first, I thought even that monkey in the bio-lab was also played by Kamal.[:D]

Screenplay: (Since there is no story) [:p]

Kamal should have left it to some one more experienced at it. He just kills the screenplay. The 12th Century bit at the end was highly unneeded. If you had missed the first 10-15 minutes of the movie, it would have made no difference to you.Was still yet to unravel the mystery behind the 12th century scenes when I read this.

"The idol that is drowned in the sea along with Rangarajan in 12th century by Chozha king results in a fault being developed at the bottom of the ocean and creates tremors more than 800 years later. These tremors result in the Tsunami. This again is a classic case of Butterfly Effect wherein a seemingly inconsequential event (the drowning of the idol) saves Tamil Nadu from being wiped off the face of the earth."

Kamal fans are making a fool of themselves by offering such explanations. Did any one give such stupid explanations when asked "How did the Ghilli team reach the finals after loosing in the semifinals of the Kabaddi Tournament?" This is probably the worst possible explanation for the 12th century bit. If drowning an idol into the ocean can cause a fault on the crust of the earth, then I kindly appeal to the Government of India to stop all the Vinayaka Chaturthi Processions because so many idols are drowned in the ocean. They may result in faults being formed on the crust of the earth and another Tsunami may be caused.

Ivanga padam naa epdilam venalum explanations kudupanga but vijay movie na ellathukum kelvi varum.Appo mattum ellathukum reasons venum ivanungaluku.Hereafter if anyone asks questions about logical loopholes in Vijay movies, I will also talk about chaos thoery, butterfly effect, special theory of relativity, newton's laws, fuzzy logic and more such peter laws that will cover up all logical loopholes.[:D]

All said and done, this is one of the worst romance tracks in Tamil cinema after Thirupachchi. Man, how does Asin fall in love at all! Atleast in Ghilli, which was a similar chase story, Vijay was saving Trisha from the villian. Here, Kamal drags Asin into trouble and then Asin falls in love. I was like WTF when Asin was talking her dialogues towards the end asking if Kamal loved her and all.

Sets: The setting were awesome. Probably they should have built the temple also as a set instead of going for Poor CG versions of it in the 12th century.

Camera: Ravi Verman's camera work was awesome all thorough the movie. It gave the rich look to the movie. The chase sequences by car were all splendidly shot by him. And if you ask me, his camera work has been overshadowed by Kamal's hype here.

Editing: No words said. If only he had cut out the 12th century portion itself, the movie would have been much shorter. The multiple role scenes have been well edited and there's no difference in lighting and other minor glitches as they were there in ATM. Another unheralded hero for the movie.

Graphics: Probably the biggest drawback of the movie IMO. They kept raving about the graphics in the movie in interviews and newspapers. But, the butterfly in the beginning of the movie was no better than the ants in ATM.[:D] and the Temple no better. Instead they could have had a real temple with all the money they spent. The much talked about Tsunami scenes were also very poor as you could clearly make out the boats being of different brightness and stuff. For all the hype that was given, all I could see was nothing.

Stunts: The stunts can give Kuruvi a run for its money. If Kuruvi was unbelievable, then Dasavatharam was as bad as Kuruvi on the stunts front. Kamal does what Vijay did in Kuruvi. He jumps on to a running train. Atleast Vijay did it alone. Kamal does it with Asin in tow. He jumps from building tops to the ground. He jumps from a bridge to the bottom and lands safely again with Asin in tow. He jumps safely from a fast-moving train to the river bed. He can walk on building ledges ala Spiderman. And yeah, as the Japanese guy, he can break bones. If Kamal does all this, no questions are asked. But if Vijay does the same, the movie is trashed about everywhere.I'd also blame the Tamil cinema watchers. If someone like a Japanese does stunts, they will watch with their mouths wide open.[:D]

Music and Picturisation of Songs:

Himmesh Reshamiyya is one of the most hated Music Directors around India more so for his nasal voice.[:p] Thank god Kamal realised his mistake and got DSP in for the background score atleast.

1) Kallai Mattum Kanda - The tune is a lift from "Baggy Jeansum", a Malayalam song. Youtube this for the original song. Himmesh has reworked this tune quite well and Hariharan has given lots of life to the song. Lyrics are awesome all-through. Has been picturised quite well in the 12th century. Good job.

2) Ka Karuppanukkum - Pop Shalini's voice fits like a T for the song. The lyrics are crap but considering it is being picturised on Mallika Sherawat you may have to ignore that. Picturisation aint too good either. It's toilet time for most people.[:p]

3) Mukundha Mukundha - Himmesh's Divine composition is here and it sounds so much like a mixture of "Chanakya Chanakya" from Dum and "Konjum Mainakkale" from "Kandukonden^2". Sadhana Sargam is very poor with her pronunciation which is so important for such a song. On the other side, it is quite pleasant to hear and the pick of the album along with "Kallai Mattum Kanda". Was well picturised on a puppet show.

4) Oh Ho Sanam - Kamal's voice again suits the song's genre though it sounds quite Bollywoodish to me. The female voice could have been better chosen. Grandly picturised on a concert of Avtar Singh, a pop singer.

5) Ulaga Nayagane - Here's the self praise song from Kamal. I thought this trend was only present in the so called masala movie heros' movies. Kamal proves he is no better than them. Quite listenable with a good voice and beat. Was picturised in the beggining as an item number by KS Ravikumar and later shows the make-up and hardwork put in by Kamal through the movie.

6) Oh ho Sanam - Remix - The first thing that strikes you and strikes you hard is Himmesh's nasal twang and his comical diction - wannabe Udit Narayan although the pace overrides the diction in most places. Isn't picturised in the movie.
Verdict: 6/10

Album verdict: For such a hyped up and big movie, surely they could have got a better music director than Himmesh. Most of the tunes are sadly lifted. It has been poorly recorded as well (or is it due to the streaming?) Better voice selection would have helped the album. And a special request to Himmesh. Stop singing, please.[:D]

BGM: Thank goodness, they got DSP to do the re-recording and the background score. Otherwise Dasavatharam would have been poorer.BGMs were good at most places but they did miss the ARR touch for a project as big as this one.

Other Loopholes/Drawbacks:

* Govind speaking Tamil in the serious conference and asking someone to translate it for the other guy. That was seriously shitty. They could have done what they did all along till then. Had him speak English and used Tamil sub-titles.

* There are loads of people inc Kamal fans (and me) who mock at Vijaykant's movies for its comical turnds and scenes. Kamal has tried to give captain a serious fight with his Avtar Singh episode where the bullet hits him right on the throat and doesn't harm his vocal cord, but removes his cancer.[:D].Way to go Kamal.

* As I said earlier, Kamal should have left a few characters to other people. Dasavatharam is more like a "Jack of all trades,Master of none" story.

* In order to escape from Tsunami when you are on the beach, all you have to do is to sit on a boat at a height. Poor people of Tamil Nadu didn't know this during the Tsunami and hence many lives were lost. I sincerely request the CBSE to add this point to their Disaster Management textbooks.[:D][:p]

* The bloody dialogues show brahmins in very poor light. Kamal is still in the ages of yore when Brahmins and lower castes were segregated. I guess this has been eradicated in most cities. And except in a few villages here and there. But he shows Asin as this low caste hater and speaking "Showchalayaha" and shit like that. In which world is he .. Seriously![:X]

* Kamal should have refrained from thrusting his atheist principles through the movie. We blame Vijayakant for using his movies as political propoganda. But Kamal is doing the same here with his "Atheism" propoganda.

* Kamal has proved how big an idiot he is and his whole point behind the movie with the dialogue - "Kadavul illai nnu naan sollaliye.Iruntha nalla irukkum nnu thaane sonnen."

The film wasn't about Chaos theory, it was all about chaos itself.[:D].What happened to Mr.Perfectionist and the best commercial director of Tamil Cinema? [:p]
Going back to the chaos theory itself from where I began .. If Sivaji ganesan hadn't done 9 roles in Navarathri, I would have probably saved Rs.200/- yesterday. [:D][:p]

PS: These are my personal views which are not being forced upon anyone else. And yeah, this was my quickest post in terms of writing time in a long long time.[:D][:D].

PPS: Thanks to Srini anna who also provided a few points for the review/retort.[:)]

School Life - Nostalgic Memories !

This post has been lying in the drafts for close to Eight months now. [:o]. My laziness getting the better of me each time I started typing something. Thank goodness, there's this Euro 2008 match between Italy and France tonight which is more than do-or-die. Else I may not have had the will to complete it even today.
PS: I didn't end up completing it either. Laziness and fatigue got the better of me yet again. [:(]

School Life is something I didn't quite "enjoy" when I should have and "enjoyed" when I shouldn't have.[:p]. I can never forget my school life and would go back to school readily if asked to go even now. So enjoyable was my school life made more enjoyable with the sets of friends I had. (I always believe I've been lucky on this account. Both in 2nd, 6th and 11th, [Same class remained between 2-5th, 6-10th, 11-12th] I had such a wonderful class which gave me many moments to remember through out my life.( And the same can be said about the set of friends in college as well.)

A few memories here and there .. ..

  • I did my Pre-KG in Le chatelier, Madurai. And there was this annual day function or whatever in which I was a part of this butterfly dance[:D] and I was so adamant that I wouldn't go onstage for the dance. I was finally coaxed onstage by mom and my teacher. But I showed the rebellious side of me at that age itself by walking out [:p] in the middle of the dance and spoiling it totally. [:D]

  • For LKG, UKG, I was shifted to this Mahatma Montessori School in Madurai. My mom constantly reminds me about my love for eating even back then ! It seems there was this kitchen or canteen whatever in the school and I constantly used to escape there during class. [:D] And not that I was a good eater. My Report Cards of that time have this constant note about "Very Poor Table Manners. Highly Unclean Eating Habits" etc etc. [:P]. And yeah, like most kids of that age, I had those school blues and developed sudden fever, stomach ache, headache and all sorts of health problems when I heard the horn of the school van.

  • After UKG, we shifted to Chennai and I dint get into PSBBSSS at that time. I joined Jawahar Vidyalaya for 1st Standard. That was when I evolved into this "Sincere Student" avatar I guess. I vividly remember this memory test held at that time. A page with about 20 pictures integrated into a background was given and we had to write down how much ever we remembered after 5 mins or something. I hardly got to remember 10 words. The guys with me were raving about 15, 17, 20 words. But surprisingly, I got the first prize. Yet to unveil the reason behind that. Not that I tried and I dont think people lie for such silly things in 1st standard and all !

  • More of JV stuff. I used to go to school in those fish-cart motor rickshaws. I suppose the driver was driving in a drunken state for quite some time and one of the parents discovered that. She was telling my mom about that. My mom, being the Inspector she is, started her enquiries with me[:p]. She asked me .. " Enna da .. Rikshaw-man Thanni Adichttu Otraan aame .. Apdia .. !" And I replied .. " Aama maa .. Thenom Avar vandila Thanni Adicchtu clean panraaru pola ippalaam." He he .. Such was my innocence at that time. [:D]

  • And I still remember the JV prize distribution function for 1st standard like it was yesterday. I had moved to PSBB and I had got quite a few prizes. There was this music teacher [ I went to Carnatic music classes for about 8 years and learnt whom I never got along well with in JV.(One of the very few such teachers with whom I've not got on well) She constantly used to be at loggerheads with me. And on the PD day, after I came off stage, she came to me immediately and off-stage in the side, she hugged me and said she was sorry for all the trouble she had given me.[:)] .. Filmy nah ?! .. Cant help it [:D]

  • After one year at JV, I moved over to PSBB in 2nd standard. As most PSBBians would know, school began at 9 am or something like that. My parents and grandparents are strict followers of this Raahu-Kaalam and Yama-gandam sentiments and hence I was late to school on the first day itself and after that I dont remember anytime when I was late to school ever since. I had to give the routine introduction in class and my English was crap at that time. I remember many people giggling at that time on hearing me speak and since then, I've rarely ventured to speak. And i vividly remember being called too silent by the teacher in the 1st term report and too talkative in the 2nd term report by my teacher !

  • 3rd Standard in PSBB was not very significant except for those Paper-ball - Bound book Cricket matches and different forms of Book Cricket which I was a champ at. [:p] And yeah, my first foray into one of my biggest passions today - Quizzing. 4th saw me make a fool of myself of myself by giving a brilliant speech in a debate. [:p] Mine was more like an extempore speech sans any arguments.[:D]. N yeah .. I watched FIFA WC 1998 in DD. And was a regular reader pf sportstar. I saw this pic of Ronaldo/Rivaldo win the European Player of the year in Glanville's column. I was like ... "Isn't Ronaldo/Rivaldo Brazilian .. How on earth did he win the European Player of the year." ! I was ignorant about club football then.

  • I still remember this like yesterday (becoming a cliche aint it ! [:D]). The day I met one of my closest friends today for the first time. I was going with my mom to Salem on West Coast Express and there was this guy sitting opposite me with his brother. I had seen him somewhere in school i remembered. Slowly we started talking and we were given the childish job of writing down the name of every station that went past us and we did it with gusto.[:D][:p] And then we were in the same class between 6th to 10th and with similar interests, no wonder we got along so well.[:)]

  • Yeah .. 5th standard was the first time I hid my marks from my parents[:D]. Got 88 in first cycle test English Literature. That was the first time I had got an Eigth grade mark and hence never told it to my parents until they saw it for themselves in the report card. Did get quite a scolding for hiding the mark, not for the mark though ! 80s became a habit in the 6th-10th and became a rarity in 11th-12th. Not that I was scoring 90s, I was struggling to touch the 80s even. 70s were a great pleasure [:D].

  • Hmm .. In 6th Standard, I watched my first Vijay(and my first Tamil .. Nah .. My first movie [:)] ) movie - Badhri. Liked it quite a bit and was impressed by the moustache sporting guy who was the hero. And he became my favourite actor since then ! (The next Vijay movie I watched was Ghilli although I did catch a few glimpses of his movies on TV now n then). Now I am what can be classified as a die-hard Vijay fan - not the paal abishekham type. But yeah, quite a fan. I did watch ATM 6 times in theatre and Kuruvi is 2* now[:D]. [PS:I watched Badri in Thiruttu VCD then !)

  • Got 88 in Maths in 7th Standard .. My first jump into the 80s in maths. I still remember that day vividly. .. .. We were taken to this magic show in Music Academy by school and when I came back, I was told by this girl Pavithra that I'd got 88. I saw my paper and tears started flowing. He He.(PS: That teacher was the worst I've ever seen in the history of PSBB .. Ms.Jasmine .. No wonder she was thrown out the next year itself) [:p]

  • Went to theatre for the first time in my life in 7th. Woodlands Symphony .. Home Alone 2. [:D]. Was a superb movie. I still love watching it. Laugh Riot it was !

  • 8th standard was WC 2002 time and the football virus bit me. That was the time when I started watching and following football seriously. There was this guy called David Beckham whose free-kicks and crosses (Hair-style too [:p]) caught my eye and this team Manchester United who played attacking and attractive football. There began my love affair with football and it has been a throughly enjoyable one so far.[:D]

  • 8th saw the advent of this teasing [:p] .. The black mark chart in class was the provocation. It was split into two columns. The perverts of the class started pairing up the girl and the boy whose names were side by side. And it went on and on. So much so that the chart was removed by the class teacher after some time !

  • And yeah .. I was on TV for the first time. Splash TV. I guess it's extinct now. We won the Splash Cricket Quiz and the program was telecast quite a few times guess. And yeah, we were the youngest team of the lot as well. [:D]

  • Tennis-ball football caught on in 9th standard with us. So did Chi-Ku-Li-Ba and Rock-paper-Scissors- Knife as well [:D][:p]. Not that I was this great footballer, I just liked to run around the place like what Dirk Kuyt does for Liverpool these days.[:p] And sadly, I had this big head-weight in 9th standard that I was too good at Maths because i did quite well in 8th standard Maths (3 centums n a 98 out of 4 exams) but yeah, like everyone with head-weight, I was quickly brought down to earth by God.[:)]

  • 10th saw me suffer two huge disappointments. For both of which I was the reason.(partly!) The first one was the ESPN Sports quiz. Myself and Vinod (Put the donkey at the end .. That's y [:p]) qualified for the on-stage finals. And we were like close to winning it when I f***ed it up totally. The question was something to do with Grand Prix circuits and we had to identify the circuits that weren't part of the F1 calender. A1 GP Austria had just been scrapped that year and I forgot that and f***ed it up for our team. We were 2nd runners up. And we missed our chance to go to Delhi because our school did some "தில்லு முள்ளு வேலை " behind the scenes and some other team was sent from our school. The second was the NTSE scholarship. I got through the first and second written rounds but f***ed up the interview like no one else could. I missed the scholarship. The interview was like .. "Draw ray-diagram for Concave Mirror .. between F and 2F object " and in my nervous state I drew a Convex mirror and argues it was right as well ! Dont know how I mamaged it still! [:(]. But yeah, this was all quite made up by my Maths performances which I'm quite proud of in that year. Only once did I not get centum in 10th. [:)] Something I'm proud of till today. 10th was one of the most satisfying years academically for me.

  • 11th saw the beginning of the downfall [:D]. Got broadband at home. That was the stepping stone to my downfall I'd say now. "சயின்ஸ் வேஸ்ட் ன்னு சொல்லல. ஆனா கோம்மேர்ஸ் எடுத்திருந்தா நல்லா இருந்துருக்கும் ன்னு தான் சொல்ரேன் " [:p] I've always had this feeling till date that I may have done better in Commerce. But still. Although I did love C++ and all that logic stuff. Yeah, there were some advantages like being able to use the internet with the excuse of Comp. Science. The all boys class was a unique experience with all those uncountable games periods and no trouble of sincere girls who submitted all the homework and stuff[:p]. IIT Classes went on well in 11th. With Minor trouble in Physics alone. I started living life[:D].Enjoying it at the wrong time clearly[:)][:(]. Trouble first hit me when I was struck by Chicken Pox at the end of 11th. I missed a few important chapters in all subjects which put an end to my IIT Preparations. I was never able to cope up again with the syllabus.

  • 12th saw a huge fall in my acads. I failed in an exam for the first time in my life. Physics midterm. By 1/4 mark though. Got 12 in Physics. Had it been 12 1/4, it would have doubled to 24.5, which was 25 - the pass mark. But the teacher refused to give me the mark. And I was too good to tell the mark at home. Never told for almost two months I guess. Until the report card came. [:D] and my mom saw it for herself. Quarterly was no better. I just passed with the help of the Anniversary Test-Project Test mark which accounted to 4 marks. Only Comp Science and English went decently. Maths was another flop show. "10th Half yearly century. 12th half yearly half century was how me and my friends used to joke about my maths marks." IIT Preparations were no better and AIEEE had absolutely no preparations at all. Same with BITSAT. Board Exams were the only exams were I managed something like a good performance. And ended up in NIT-Bhopal. All I did during 12th was being online. I came online even on the day of the exams sometimes ! Such was my laxity. And everything showed in my results[:D]. 11th, 12th had flown past with just a flurry of Cultural fests and Exams thrown in.

  • Still dont know how PSBB gave me an "All-Rounder" Prize for my performance in 12th. Perhaps will be the first time that a person who failed in an exam got an "All-Rounder" Prize. (Missed it only in 11th). But yeah, 12th was quite memorable in it's own way !

And thus school life drew to an end. All the time when I was in school, I was yearning for school life to end. But only when the end came near, I was yearning for a few more months of school life desperately.[:(]. As they say, "Only when you miss something, You'll know its full value".

People I can never forget in school life

  • Mrs. Mithra Dharmarajan - My LKG, UKG teacher. The one who wrote I had "Poor Eating Habits" and "Table Manners" in my report card. If not for her, I'd have remained the same till date.

  • Mrs. Lalitha Sethuraman - 3rd Standard Class Teacher. Had a great rapport with her. Was a wonderful teacher. I last saw here, she did recognise me.

  • Mrs. Rajarajeshwari - Another teacher with whom I'm still in touch with. My 4th Standard Class teacher. The one who instilled that interest for "Hindi" without whom I'd be struggling in Bhopal without knowing Hindi.

  • Mrs. Srividya - She was one of those teachers who made Social Studies periods interesting. My 5th Standard Class teacher, Social and English teacher. It was the only time that I scored decent marks in Social Studies.[:D]

  • Mrs. Sumathy - My 8th Standard Maths Teacher. One of the best Maths Teachers I've ever had after Mrs. Srimathy.

  • Mrs. Srimathy - My Maths Tuition teacher for 8th, 9th , 10th. Without her, I'd have been nowhere in Maths. All my Maths marks belong to her. Taught me what hardwork meant. And she was this wonderful counsellor too.

  • Mrs. Shoba Chidambaram - What I am in English today is all due to her. The one who encouraged writing answers on out own instead of dictating her own answers. Really enjoyed her English classes next to only Mrs.Valsa's classes in 12th (which were due to a different reason of course[:p])

  • Mrs. Vijayasudha - If not for her, I'd have failed my Physics Board. All those Physics special tests during the Study Holidays, her no-nonsense method of handling our boysterous class all stood out. Another wonderful teacher.

  • Mrs. Geetha Govindarajan - My Maths teacher in 11th n 12th. It was due to her that I managed a 90 in my Maths Board. Her Special tests and Exams during the study holidays. It was only then that I got the hang of Integration at last ! Till then, I never even tried attempting the Integration questions in the question paper. I only wrote the paper for at the maximum of 70 marks out of which i'd manage somewhere close to 60+. [:D] It was only in the board exam that I attempted a full paper for the first time in 12th standard.[:)]

  • Mrs. Valsa Balaji - Her English classes were real fun. For two reasons. 1) She hardly turned up in class. All those periods when she dint turn up, she allowed us to play games in the playground. 2) When She did turn up, her classes were a laugh riot. Her English was awesome and unmatchable.

  • Mrs. Rajalakshmi - The only teacher I remember for all the wrong reasons. She was my English teacher in 8th and 11th. 8th, she was quite bearable. Even in 11th, she was quite ok. Although she was troubled by our class too many times. But it was in 12th that I got the wrong side of her. It was all a simple matter of participation in the CV school culturals. And I got a word or two wrong in the way I put my point across to her. She started screaming right in the middle of the corridor that I was a cheat and all sorts of non-sense about me. Never again did I talk to her and when some kind of feedback form was given to us by school, I wrote some crap about her being biased in the selections (which was true) in that and submitted it.[:p] But yeah, that quite ended my school quizzing career on the wrong note. (Not that there were too many quizzes left after that)

  • Mrs. Latha - C++ teacher in 11th and 12th. Never got irritated if asked to explain the same topic even 10 times. I remember her teaching our class "Pointers" about 4 times fully. If the C paper in 2nd Sem of college went off without any sort of trouble or preparation, it was due to her brilliant teaching. Not one concept did I not understand. It was the only subject other than english in which my performance was more than decent.[:D]

That's it for this post I guess. And yeah, I suppose I sounded like bragging at a few places. Well, didn't know how to put things across. This post which was lying in the drafts for quite a long time now has atlast been completed.Started writing it full fledged 3 days back and managed to complete it just today. Too much of memory squeezing I guess. If only I had a "Pensieve" with me like Dumbledore.[:D].

PS: Dasavatharam Review coming soon ! More sooner than the film at least [:p] which said coming soon for about two years [:D]

Random Ramblings - 2

  • At last managed to bring myself to write something for my now half sleeping blog ! And I managed to get through half this post with a lot of self-coaxing and difficulty when the idiots at MES felt it convenient to cut the power supply ! And the idiot that I was, I wrote the post on notepad for convenience's sake and 'puff' it went into thin air ! So, the next time (This time ie) I wrote it directly into Blogger Draft !

  • There are about 5 posts in my drafts lying around in various stages of completion, the dates of starting ranging from about an year back to the most recent one being started about a week back ! These days I don't feel like writing at all. Don't know what happened. While sitting idle, I feel like blogging and start a post. A few minutes later, I drop the idea and return back to my slumber. Even to complete this post, I had to stop myself from falling asleep many a time

  • Most of the people with whom I chat must be familiar with this constant rant of mine about lack of quality theatres in Bhopal [:D]. There is not even one two screen theatre in Bhopal leave alone a Multiplex. [:(] The only one that was supposedly started by PVR also met opposition by the residents there as they were against "Multiplexisation" whatever that is supposed to be. A/c theatres are a luxury out there and I don't think even one theatre has DTS. [:(] And the place is supposed to be the capital of Madhya Pradesh. What shocked me was when I went to Salem ! There's this ARRS Multiplex out there - A Six Screen multiplex screening Hindi and English movies without dubbing them into Tamil ! When there's NO theatre that releases English movies in English out there in Bhopal. Tamil Nadu is developing [:D] Even Tier - 2 cities here have more facilities than the capitals of many other states ! Tamil Nadu Shining .. He He .. !

  • Another thing that struck me during my trip to Salem was the government's stand on black tickets etc. Well the thing that made me have this doubt was the Tatkal Facility offered in Indian Railways. What is it if it is not a "Legal" Method of Black Ticketing by the government ? How different is it to the black tickets sold in theatres ? It's the same literally ! The government takes Rs. 150 or Rs. 300 extra from you for your ticket and gives you a confirmed ticket even though you book your ticket very very very late ! I mean, why not make black ticketing in theatres also legal ? Isn't this Tatkal Quota on trains hoarding by the government ? They set aside about 200 tickets in Sleeper Class of each train to be sold later at a higher rate ie higher profit.

  • This talk of hoarding brings me to another thing. Through the last week, it was really shocking and annoying to see the petrol pumps across Chennai sell the normal fuel at a higher rate by posing it off as branded fuel ! [:X] Every single petrol pump said, Only "Speed","Xtra Premium" is available saar. No ordinary petrol. Do they do the same crap all the time? Is there any way for the consumers to differentiate between the normal petrol and the "branded" fuel when they get their tanks filled ? [:)]

  • And yeah. I got my ticket to Dasavatharam on 17th June at Sangam. [:D][:D] Use Sangam's Online booking facility. It's the most easiest to use. They deliver your tickets at home itself ! Morning 11-30 AM show .. Balcony ! That was the earliest I could get leaving alone Mayajaal and Abirami's online booking IMO is shit and Inox is too classy a theatre for me. I love watching films in a theatre full of noise not a silent one like Sathyam and Inox ! Yeah, this is the second most earliest I'm watching a film after it's release. Earliest was Pokkiri 2nd day at Mayajaal when I was in my 12th standard. [:D] Review should be up latest by the same afternoon. And yeah, Dasavatharam's audio review is one of the many posts still in draft stage waiting for completion ! [:D][:p]

  • Was at My Perimma's place in Srirangam for one night and so chanced to watch a few mega serial (Nedunthodar as they say these days [:D]) episodes on Sun TV. Anandham,Pirandha Veedu Pugundha Veedu[PVPV] (or Whatever) and Kolangal was all I could tolerate before my slumber took over. Was quite tough choosing which was the crappiest of the three. Anandham had this episode where an old man who cant even take a few steps keeps walking and there's a guy riding this 125 cc bike on a broken down road and then on the highway and how they crash into one another. Brilliant camera work and editing with the camera panning from one person to another every 15 seconds was the highlight of the episode. And then towards the end of the episode the guy on the bike starts walking as well. Effect of watching Ajith from Billa I guess [:p]. Decent a nadantha superstar aaydlaam nnu nenachutaanga pola [:p]. ( PS: Not saying Ajit's walk is decent nor is he a superstar) [:p]. PVPV had this episode about a guy learnin about an extra marital affair of his friend (If what I made out was correct) and a woman with a child roaming around with one more woman etc and I cant remember what Kolangal was about. Or was this Kolangal ?! [:o] The other episode I watched was one where this guy called "Maniarasi" or whatever goes to his lover's house to convince her and the idiot wants her to wash his back while he takes bath. As if he's some Supermodel and we all are waiting to watch him take off his clothes to reveal his 8 pack abs ! Well, the walking episode of Anandham wins hands down for the innovative method of time-wasting adopted by it ! [:D] I still don't know how people watch these mega-serials. The only one I've watched fully was this one called Anbai-Thedi on DD about half a decade back. That one was quite decent without these Raadikaa Sarathkumar trademark Alugai and extramarital affair sequences.

  • Rafael Nadal won at Roland Garros for the fourth consecutive time! He's yet to loose a game there as yet. And Fedex was Dead-ex in the match. He did nothing winning just 4 games through the 3 sets. Rafa was just unbelievable. He played like a dream and got unbelievable angles all through the match. And the icing on the cake - The bagel in the last set ! Vamosss Rafa ! Wimbledon, Here Rafa comes !! [:D]

  • More good news for me. Things went my way at last at home and I've got my Laptop or atleast will be getting it sometime this week. Cost my dad close to Rs.50000. Dell XPS M1530. Was pretty much happy with the configuration I got.

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T5750 2.0 GHz, 2MB Cache, 667 MHz FSB
Genuine Windows Vista(TM) Home Premium - with AERO experience
15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display with TrueLife(TM)
Crimson Red LCD display with Integrated 2.0 mega pixel web cam
    3GB (1 X 2 GB + 1 X 1 GB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    250GB SATA Hard Drive
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
    128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8400M GS
    Palmrest with Fingerprint Reader
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Dual Band 802.11a/g 54Mbps Wireless Mini Card
    Dell(TM) Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module
    6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Plus all those accesories which Dell provides along ! Pretty much happy with this although 256 MB graphics card would have made my day[:D].Sadly it cost me Rs.3000 for the upgrade and I had to drop the plans.

  • Chanced a watch on this crap realtity show called "Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai" conducted by SRK on one of the Star Network Channels. Although I love the guy's sense of humour on the spot, the show is real crap. Those artificially chirpy kids, those over enthusiastic partiticipants all give it a great sense of being set-up. And the format is the worst of all. Reality shows are going to the dogs these days on Indian Television.

  • The Hindu is advertising a lot these days especially after The Times of India.TOI is THE most crappy newspaper I've ever read in my opinion. All it has is a few questionable pictures of Hollywood Actresses, Singers etc. It does have a very active Blue-Line accident spotter team which somehow manages to get a Blueline bus accident into the Page 3 of the paper everyday. It also has a highly active "Rape and Child Molestation" News team which manages to get a page full of news about such incidents everyday from all around the country.[:D] A few rumours from and make up the rest of the news stories in the paper. And yeah not to forget those page-fulls of adverts all over which make it look more like a ad-pamphlet than a proper newspaper. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the crappy editor it has who makes mistakes on the front page headline and carries a photo graph of "Fat" Ronaldo when the article talks about C.Ronaldo.[:D]

  • I am at it with Airtel again. What a fuck-all system they have in place with their customer care call-centres ! They ask you to press 2 for English, 4 for Value added Services and then 9 to talk to a Customer Care Executive. They hold you on line for about 5 minutes and then ask you to SMS them your problem within 150 words. And in response to your queries, you get a keyword based program reply. Whatever you ask about Hellotunes, the reply will always be the same. The same three part message about activation and de-activation. If at all you manage to get through to a Customer Care Executive, the person will take pains to see that your problem remains. If he knows the answer, the poor guy takes the trouble to put on some soothing music for you interspersed with stupid Airtel Ads and then silently cuts the call.

  • Roads in Tamil Nadu are becoming a pleasant surprise. 4-lane conversions everywhere. Man .. TN is surely on the fast path to development. A/c Buses, 4-lane roads, Tickets being printed out on buses. Flyovers here, Flyovers there, Flyovers Everywhere ! The Highways dept is surely doing a good job.

PS: Not that I'm a great fan of T.R.Baalu and his works. The only guy I've admired as a minister so far is Mr.Dayanidhi Maran who did so much for BroadBand in India. Unfortunately, he had to leave half way through. [:(]

That's it for this post I suppose. If my laziness permits, a few more posts should be up quickly by the end of today. Let's see. [:)]
